20 talented students from across the globe to embark on an Arctic expedition to the North Pole this August

As part of the international educational project “Icebreaker of Knowledge”, the final selection of international participants has concluded. The project is organized by the Russian Autonomous Non-Profit Organization “Energy of the Future” with the support of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom.

As a result of the competition, winners from 20 countries have been selected. This summer, they will embark on a unique expedition to the North Pole aboard the nuclear-powered icebreaker “50 Let Pobedy”.

The competition was held in three stages: participants demonstrated their knowledge in a scientific quiz, attended educational webinars hosted by leading experts, and prepared creative video presentations. At the third stage, the video presentations were evaluated by an expert jury, which included: Keutchanga Foncha Jules Marcel, expert of the “Icebreaker of Knowledge 2024” expedition, Head of the Patent Office of the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation of Cameroon; Alexander Petrov, Head of the Press Office of the ITER Project Center (Rosatom); Daria Sokol, Junior Researcher at the Russian Quantum Center, employee of “Rosatom – Quantum Technologies”; Evgeny Trofimenko, Project Manager at JSC “UMATEX”; Evgeny Sviridov, Head of the Communications Department at FSUE “Atomflot”; Maksim Dankin, General Director of the Expert Center “Project Office for the Development of the Arctic”; Bogdan Bulychev, blogger, Arctic and Far East Ambassador, member of the Russian Geographical Society, and Head of the regional branch of the Association of Polar Explorers.

“It was a real pleasure to serve as a jury member for such a competition. Watching the videos was genuinely engaging – many of them evoked a strong emotional response. It all came together as a big, beautiful, colourful mosaic of faces, countries, emotions and stories,” shared Maksim Dankin. “The students are sincerely eager to discover something new, to learn about Russia, and to explore the world of nuclear energy. I hope this expedition gives them the momentum for future discoveries,” he added.

“Each participant did an exceptional job of researching their topic in depth, ensuring that their brilliant presentations were rich in solid scientific content. Their dedication and curiosity are truly inspiring. This is exactly what we expect from participants who dream of reaching the top of the world through this flagship expedition, Icebreaker of Knowledge 2025. Thanks to Rosatom, this dream will come true for some of them”, – emphasised Keutchanga Foncha Jules Marcel.

In August 2025, the winners will embark on an unforgettable expedition featuring an intensive educational programme, meetings with researchers, and a unique opportunity to become the first from their countries to set foot on the top of the Earth.

This year, the project is dedicated to two significant anniversaries – the 80th anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry and the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the exploration of the Northern Sea Route.
