Young Researchers from Around the World to Get a Chance to Reach the North Pole Aboard a Nuclear Icebreaker
Talented schoolchildren from 20 countries will travel to the northernmost point on Earth aboard the nuclear icebreaker “50 Let Pobedy”

On 28 April 2025, the international selection process began for participants of the “Icebreaker of Knowledge” project, organized by Russian Autonomous Non-Profit Organization “Energy of the Future”, which develops information centers for nuclear energy, with the support of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom”. This year the project is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry and the 500th anniversary of the exploration of the Northern Sea Route.
Twenty winners of the competition will embark on an Arctic expedition aboard Rosatomflot’s nuclear-powered icebreaker “50 Let Pobedy”. The participants will enjoy an intensive educational program featuring lectures by leading experts, hands-on workshops, and interactive sessions.
Students from 20 countries – Armenia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Ghana, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Namibia, South Africa, Türkiye, Uzbekistan and Viet Nam – are eligible to take part in the selection process.
The competition will take place in three stages: first, a quiz on science and technology; second, a series of engaging webinars; and finally, the finalists will create a video presentation. The results will be announced on 20 June, when the final team of lucky participants is formed – those who will set off to conquer the North Pole. For some, this journey will be historic, they will be the first representatives of their countries ever to set foot on the top of the world!
